Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear for my dance lessons?

Anything that is comfortable and allows freedom of movement. In terms of footwear, you might find it easier to wear what you would normally wear, when you go out social dancing. Trainers (sneakers) are not generally recommended as they are sometimes difficult to move in, when dancing on the hardwood floors.

Will I need a partner to take dance lessons?

No. Most students in our group classes are primarily single, and partners are rotated throughout the class if needed. However, if you bring a partner with you it may be less intimidating!

Is learning to dance difficult?

Dancing can be quite easy to learn. Like most new things, it will take time to achieve, but our instructors make learning as easy as possible and fun. A steady approach with practice will produce results in a short period.

Am I too old to learn to dance?

Anyone who is able to walk can dance! Our students range in age from 16-70+. Moving to the beat and co-ordinating with your partner are things that are easily learned at any age, although dancing is something that many people choose to begin later in life when they have more time for a new hobby.

How long does it take to learn how to dance?

It really depends on the individual. Everyone can work at their own pace and at our classes, we will try to accommodate your needs.

I am very shy and am afraid that I will feel self conscious about dancing. Is this normal?

Everyone, including our professional instructors, started from the beginning and felt nervous at some point. Each time a new student begins their lessons, we remember what our first lessons were like. Our classes are a safe and supportive environment in which to learn to dance, and there is absolutely no reason to feel self conscious. Our classes are designed to gradually allow you to express your new-found freedom on the dance floor! Take it at your own pace, you will soon feel comfortable and more confident!

How often should I take dance lessons?

This is entirely up to you. Our students take at least 1 class with us per week, obviously the more lessons you take the cheaper the class costs and the quicker you will progress. If you want to improve as quickly as possible then take advantage of as many classes as possible!

Will I have a good teacher?

Yes. All of our instructors are very talented, trained in house and most of all friendly and helpful. The teachers are there to help you and happy to answer additional questions and have a practice with after the lessons so take advantage of their time!

Why should I learn to dance?

Students have told us that besides learning to dance, they gain self confidence, higher self esteem, improved posture and gain new friends socially, as well as a multitude of health benefits. Each person finds that dancing has helped them in different ways, just try it to see how it can help you.

How much does it cost?
Our salsa courses are relatively inexpensive and if you do more than 1 class you save money. See our current prices and DEALS!
Which class is right for me?
We are always happy to evaluate your dancing and advise upon the most appropriate class for you. However, simply we offer Beginners salsa for those completely new to dance, Improvers Salsa for people who have mastered the basic salsa steps of On the spot, Side to side and Forward and back basic. Improvers learn cross body steps and variations of basic footwork in their lessons. The intermediate salsa class teaches students steps such as cross body turns and more complicated footwork. Advanced salsa classes focus on intricate turning patterns, difficult footwork and shines and some dips and lifts. Dancers should not move themselves into a higher class level without first checking that they are ready and sufficiently competent with their teacher. It is important not to rush through stages as students need time and practice before they are truly able to progress to the next stage. Don't try to run before you can walk!
